So you're gonna be a freshman at ASU this fall? I, for one, am incredibly excited that you're coming our way. ASU is where I spent some of my funnest, most growth-filled years, and it's such a great opportunity to get to continue to work on this special campus.
But...let's face it...while being a freshman can be incredibly exciting--a wonderful chance to re-create yourself, get a fresh start and reset your life after high school, form your own identity seperate from you parents and family, a chance to meet all kinds of new people--it can also conjure up fears of lonliness, disorientation, and dread. Change isn't easy for a lot of people. It can be a scary thing to break away from so many of the things that have made you who you are so far in your life. Being on your own and being accountable mainly to nobody but yourself for the way you spend your time can be exhilirating but also panic-inducing.
In other words, change can be intimidating, especially if you feel like you're facing it alone. Far too often, students come to college and become lonlier than ever. Maybe they're shy. Maybe they're scared. Maybe they're afraid they aren't cool enough. And they end up sitting in their room and letting the whole collegiate experience pass them by.
But that's not the way it's supposed to be! So I want to tell you something...the Red Wolves For Christ campus ministry wants to love you, support you, and become your friend. Really. All you have to do is let us. Now, I admit that when you come to one of our events, it may not be the most glamourous, high-dollar production you can find on campus. When you come to our building, you might not be that impressed. You wouldn't have to look too far to find a group with a bigger budget.
But let me also tell you this: you will have to look pretty hard to find a group on the ASU campus that will love you, accept you, and make you family as quickly and easily as we will. In other words, there's nobody who does "family" better than we do.
So if you're about to be a freshman at ASU, just know we're here for you, so there's no need to ever fear having to do college alone.
Chris Buxton
